10008 PULSE PROJECT
10008 Pulse readings
In Ayurveda, Tibetan Medicine and Chinese medicine, one of the many ways to examine a patient is through their pulse. The pulse is the life beat of each and every living being. By learning to listen closely to the pulse and connecting deeply with the person through that listening, a trained physician can successfully diagnose many ailments that would go unnoticed otherwise. THE KEY of course is not only in the knowledge and training with a master pulse diagnostician, but in the experience of listening to many pulses and understanding the subtleties of each unique being.
It is for this reason, I decided to undertake this project. I have long been fascinated with my teachers' abilities to understand deeply held beliefs and diagnose ailments through their patients' pulse. In order for me to become more experienced, I am offering to read your pulse and do a few other diagnosis techniques if you would just come out and lend me your arms for a minute or two! THIS IS NOT A FULL READING - it is a chance for you to learn a bit about alternative forms of medicine and perhaps a bit about yourself. One practitioner of Ayurveda that I know was told by his teacher to go and sit in Connaught Circle in Delhi, India and take 1008 pulses. He was told the basics: use these 3 fingers, this is vata, pitta and kapha. THAT WAS IT. Yet, through his listening and the willingness of so many strangers that just walked up and let him take their pulse, he learned much about human nature and the pulse. It is my hope to do the same. I am starting with a similar, simple understanding, and continuing my training along the way. By the time I reach 100008 I will probably be finished my PhD and perhaps a bit more accomplished in my quest for a deeper understanding of how we all tick, literally one pulse at a time! Once I figure out how to put a counter, I'll put one up too!
